Preparticipation for Student Athletes

Thanks to amazing advances in medical science and sports technology, young athletes of all skill sets are provided more opportunities than ever to participate in sports and activities on a regular basis. Our children are better trained and prepared for these activities than we could have possibly imagined when we were young.

Unfortunately, with this added access to participation comes added risk of injury and harm. While some events are unpredictable and thus cannot be avoided, there are a few specific underlying heart conditions that can be screened for, allowing us to avoid potential tragedy. Some of these conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Brugada syndrome, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy and long QT syndrome run in families and can be passed on to the next generation.

At Pediatric Cardiology of Long Island all our doctors are equipped to assess young athletes and to ensure that anyone participating in competitive sports and activities is safe to do so.

If you would like to have your child screened please call any of our locations for our first available appointment.
